Indoor Energy Burn: The Color Relay Challenge

When the winter chill keeps the kids indoors, we transform our living room into a high-energy “Color Relay” zone. This activity seamlessly blends gross motor exercise with essential colour recognition. By setting up a station of mixed blocks at one end of the room and sorting bins at the other, we turn a simple cleanup task into an engaging physical challenge.

Children burn off cooped-up energy by navigating the “track” using various locomotor skills—like hopping, marching, crawling, or jumping—to retrieve their items. Each trip across the room requires them to focus on their movement before successfully sorting and stacking the coloured blocks into their designated piles. It’s the perfect way to keep both bodies and brains active when it’s too cold to head to the playground.
